How does xyz work

When an Xyz Summon is performed, the Xyz Materials then turn into forms of energy whose colors match their Attributes before shooting into the air, sometimes spiraling around each other.

A red-colored spiral portal known as an Overlay Network then appears, and the energy forms enter the portal. The newly Summoned Xyz Monster then emerges from the portal, its Xyz Materials, now colored in accordance with its Attribute, orbiting around it. The emergence from the portal differs between Yu-Gi-Oh! Certain monsters, especially "Number" monsters, may have unique or specially designed Overlay Networks of a different color or shape. The idea of a spiral-shaped portal is derived from Konami's statement that Xyz Monsters entered our universe through a black hole.

However, in Yu-Gi-Oh! In the Yu-Gi-Oh! Apart from the basic method of performing an Xyz Summon outlined above, certain cards allow the controller to perform an Xyz Summon outside of its parameters. An Xyz Evolution can be performed by utilizing the Summoning procedure of an Xyz Monster or by a card effect.

Some Xyz Monsters have a Summoning procedure that allows it to be Xyz Summoned by using a single Xyz Monster as material, usually with some kind of restriction on the Xyz Monster that can be used. This is typically worded as You can also Xyz Summon this card by using […] as material. Transfer its materials to this card. Many card effects can perform Xyz Evolution when they resolve. In addition the requirement to gain a Number C is for one to "carve a clear path" out of the chaos of confusion into the light.

It was first seen in Episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! Unlike Chaos Xyz Evolution, this method does not use the power of Chaos. It is only possible through Rank-Up and cannot be performed simply by using a certain monster as Xyz Material.

It also differs in the way that all Rank-Up Xyz Evolution counterparts need the same number of materials to be Summoned if not Summoned via Rank-Up , whereas Chaos Xyz Evolution counterparts require 1 more material. It was first used in Rank 32 by Yuma Tsukumo. ZEXAL manga, Astral first awakened to the ability to perform a Shining Xyz Evolution when the orbs of light that appeared in front of Yuma's, Kaito's and Shark's chests connected, representing the moment of the birth of Yuma's bonds with Kaito and Shark.

According to Astral himself, the strengthening of their bonds managed to release some of his power, creating the "Shining Number" in Yuma's Extra Deck. At that moment, Astral shined so clearly that he became visible for an instant. No adjustments required!

But Xyz Monsters are way easier to Summon than either of those. Your Extra Deck can be anywhere from 0 to 15 cards. If you want to Xyz Summon, you need some face-up monsters on the field with the same level. This means that XYZ summoning has been officially implemented and even players that don't plan on using it will have to deal with it during competitive duels. XYZ cards are monster cards that are placed in the extra deck alongside fusion and synchro monsters.

They can easily be identified by their black card backgrounds and the XYZ label in their card description. The easiest way to do this is by completing the unlock missions for Yuma. Players will then get the option for an XYZ summoning tutorial that can be viewed at any time by talking to Tour Guide from the Underworld.

Like other Extra Deck monsters, if an Xyz Monster is not Xyz Summoned first, it cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard or while banished unless it specifies another way to properly Special Summon it. Xyz Monsters do not have Levels , and instead have a Rank. An Xyz Monster's Rank is depicted by a row of yellow stars in black orbs as opposed to the yellow stars in red orbs used to depict a monster's Level that extend outwards from the left-hand side of the card the opposite side to Level stars.

Token Monsters cannot be used as Xyz Materials. While the majority of the Xyz Monsters require 2 Xyz Materials, many Xyz Monsters require more or can use a variable number of Materials.

Cards being attached as an Xyz Material or used as an Xyz Material in an Xyz Summon are not considered to be leaving the field. Xyz Materials remain attached if an Xyz Monster is flipped face-down. Usually, Xyz Monsters need to detach an Xyz Material to activate their effects, meaning their effects often have a limited number of uses.
